General Information
The 6th Annual Diamond Ball FACT SHEET
The diamond is the birthstone for April-Cancer Awareness Month. It is only fitting that this month would be chosen once again for The Diamond Ball, the signature black-tie dinner, dance and auction to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society.
This year will mark the 6th anniversary of this highly successful fundraising event, with the Inaugural Diamond Ball held in April 1997. An entertaining, fun-filled evening is planned.
One in three Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime: a staggering statistic! Funds raised through the Canadian Cancer Society will reduce the impact of cancer by funding the best cancer research and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. The range of support services, unparalleled anywhere, includes the national Cancer Information Service, driving patients to and from treatments, operating Camp Goodtimes and Ogopogo Ski Camp for teens (camps for kids with cancer), providing tobacco, prostate health and breast health forums, and raising awareness of cancer issues.
The Canadian Cancer Society, a leader in funding cancer research, prevention, advocacy and patient services, relies solely on fundraising efforts to achieve its annual goal of $18.7 million in the BC & Yukon Division.
The Diamond Ball has established itself as an integral part of our fundraising initiatives. Because of the outstanding support of our guests and donors, the 5th Diamond Ball raised $415,000. Our aim is to surpass that figure this year.
The Diamond Ball has quickly achieved high profile in the community and attracts over 500 guests: affluent Vancouver business and community leaders, primarily within the 35 to 55 age group.
This year's Co-Chairs are Cathy Howden and Timmy MacKay-Dunn. The Diamond Ball is organized and administered by a committee of over 50 dedicated volunteers and two staff members.
The elegant BC Ballroom in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will once again be our venue.
Saturday, April 20, 2002. Festivities begin at 6 PM and continue until 1 AM.
The Canadian Cancer Society is Canada's largest health charity, providing patient support services, prevention information, public health advocacy and funding cancer research. We invite you to join us by being a donor, sponsor, guest or volunteer of the gala.
